USA:n presidentti Donald Trump määräsi keskiviikkona isot tullit ulkomaalaisille tavaroille.

- US president Donald Trump imposed high tariffs on foreign goods on Wednesday.

Esimerkiksi eurooppalaisille tulli on 20 prosenttia ja Kiinalle 34 prosenttia.

- For example, the tariff for Europeans is 20 percent and for China, it is 34 percent.

Myös monille muille maille tulee isot tullit.

- Many other countries will also face high tariffs.

USA tekee paljon kauppaa muiden maiden kanssa. Siksi USA:n tulleilla on iso vaikutus koko maailmaan.

Mikä on tulli? Tulli tarkoittaa, että USA perii lisämaksun tavaroista, jotka tulevat USA:han ulkomailta.

- What is a tariff? Tariff means that The US claims extra charges on goods that come in the US from abroad.

Esimerkiksi 100 euron eurooppalaisista kengistä lisämaksu on 20 euroa.

- For example, for European shoes worth 100 euros, the surcharge is 20 euros.

Eurooppalaiset kengät, jotka ennen maksoivat USA:ssa 100 euroa, maksavat tulevaisuudessa ehkä 120 euroa.

- European shoes that used to cost 100 euros in the US will probably cost 120 euros in the future.

Ulkomaalaisten tavaroiden hinnat siis nousevat USA:ssa.

- So the price of foreign good rise in the US.

Tullit eivät nimittäin koske tavaroita, jotka tehdään USA:ssa.

Jos firmat siirtävät tehtaat USA:han, USA:han tulee lisää työpaikkoja.

Kun USA määrää tullit muille maille, muut maat määräävät tullit USA:lle.

Silloin maat tekevät vähemmän kauppaa USA:n kanssa.

Talouden tutkijat sanovat, että kun kauppaa on vähemmän, kaikki köyhtyvät.
